March 12, 2015

Is it possible to do Alligator fishing with an R/C helicopter? Or can you even land on an Alligator? Legendary croc hunter and R/C pilot Billy Hill took us onto a trip deep into the Florida Everglades to find out!

Heli of the day was a trusty old Skyfox with wooden blades. Won't do damage to an alligator (just in case) and wouldn't be a real loss either should it crash into the swamp. Overall one of our favorite Legacy actions, warmly remembering the fun we all had. Time passes so quickly (sigh) ...

Do I need to get approval from the FAA to fly a model aircraft for recreation?

No. FAA guidance does not address size of the model aircraft. FAA guidance says that model aircraft flights should be kept below 400 feet above ground level (AGL), should be flown a sufficient distance from populated areas and full scale aircraft, and are not for business purposes.
