Dartmouth's Mobile Virtual Player
Published on Aug 19, 2015
The newest addition to Dartmouth Athletics—the Mobile Virtual Player (MVP). The device was developed after Head Football Coach Buddy Teevens tasked engineers at Dartmouth’s Thayer School to develop a safer, more effective means to train for contact. Quinn Connell, Elliot Kastner, Andrew Smist and Noah Glennon began developing the idea as a part of their capstone engineering course at Dartmouth. Since graduating, Elliot, former defensive lineman for the Big Green, and Quinn, former co-captain of the Dartmouth Rugby Football Club, have returned to Thayer to continue the project. Along with Thayer advisor John Currier and backing from several interested parties, Buddy, Elliot and Quinn formed Mobile Tackling Target LLC.

Meet the Mobile Virtual Player, a Robotic Practice Dummy
Published on Aug 27, 2015
Dartmouth football now has a new and "safe" kind of tackling dummy. Meet the MVP, an autonomous Mobile Virtual Player designed to reduce injuries and simulate realistic game scenarios with less risk. It's a free-standing, remote controlled, padded dummy that hit the practice field two years ago when head coach Buddy Teevens wanted Dartmouth's engineering school to come up with a safer way to tackle.

Tackle This: football’s newest MVP is a robot
Published on Sep 9, 2016
A robotic tackling dummy created by Dartmouth College engineering students could turn out to be the most valuable player on the field this football season. Short for Mobile Virtual Player, the MVP robot is designed to take a beating during football drills, sparing players from an accumulation of the kinds of impacts known to result in concussions and long-term brain damage.
