Burglars beware the latest development in robotic technology amy one day patrol homes and commercial premises across Japan.
The small robot is capable of stopping intruders in their tracks.
STORYLINE:
It may look harmless enough,but this little robot is the latest hi tech security system.
Designed to help night watchmen guard public and office buildings, the robot, called "T-34", was unveiled on Thursday by tmsuk Co., Ltd.
It throws a net over unsuspecting intruders.
The remotely controlled security 12-kilogram battery-operated robot looks like a bigger version of a radio control car.
The robot will patrols a building, reaching speeds of upto 10 km (6 miles) per hour and when it sees a suspicious individual, it warns the watchman by ringing his mobile phone.
A mobile phone is used to control the robot as well.
It has a little camera installed in the front which captures the situation it is facing.
If met with a prowler (intruder) , the video image that the robot captures will be sent to the mobile phone, and the holder of the mobile phone can then instruct the robot to give out a warning, or to shoot out a net to capture the violator.
If the prowler refuses to listen to warning, T-34 can launch a net that looks like a fishing net to capture the man.
The net flies as far as 3 meters (10 feet) and can shoot out the net while its on the move.
Once caught in the net, if the person struggles, it causes him to trip over.
Tmsuk, who has worked on the robotics since 1992 has developed receptionist robots, remote controlled robots, home monitoring robots, and nursing robots which are robots that mostly built to help people at homes.
It is unclear when the security robot will be available commercially but they hope to be able to put it out in the market within a year.
There are already some robots that are used as security devices, but these are expensive and the creators of T-34 say the costs will be much lower, in the ranger of 500,000 yen (approximately 5,590 US dollars).
