Liron Gino designs Vibeat listening device for the hearing impaired

Published on Aug 8, 2016

This movie shows a set of wearable devices that allow deaf and hearing-impaired people to experience music through vibration, designed by Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design graduate Liron Gino.

The Vibeat collection is an alternative to headphones that features a necklace, bracelet and pin with circular modules attached to them.

The "alternative sensory system" translates tracks into vibrations, with different units in the collection reacting to lower or higher ranges. This allows wearers to experience songs through touch alone.

"Music is one of the deepest and most primal forms of human communication, and its ability to convey emotion and expression make it into an invaluable tool," said Gino. "How can the deaf and hearing-impaired community experience music, without actually hearing it?"

Each wearable connects to the music source via Bluetooth. Internal motors within the wearables react to different frequencies to make the devices vibrate.

The Vibeat units can be unclipped, allowing users to decide where to place the devices on their body. It also gives them the chance to share the experience with others. Users can share their music with a hearing person by connecting a pair of headphones.

The evolution of hearables: past, present and future

Published on Jun 20, 2019

Consumers have come to expect more from their wearable devices and as the markets for hearables and hearing health devices continue to grow, biometrics have become essential. There are numerous emerging use cases for biometric hearables as a result of the ongoing convergence between the consumer wearables/hearables market and health and medical devices.

In this webinar, we'll explore hearables and the next era of augmented hearing. We will also discuss the problems being solved by biometric hearables and where this technology is headed, particularly as hearing aids get smarter and hearables gain more capabilities.
