Death of Stanislaw Lem
September 26, 2016

My contribution to Stanislaw Lem, who deceased in 2006. He was the best science fiction writer.
The animation short about one of his books called `Cyberiada` (english name is Cyberiad), a series of humorous short stories. The vast majority of characters are either robots or intelligent machines. The stories focus on problems of the individual and society, as well as on the vain search for human happiness through technological means.
The universe of The Cyberiad is pseudo-Medieval. There are kingdoms, knights, princesses, and even dragons in abundance. Robots are usually anthropomorphic, to the point of being divided into sexes. Love and marriage are possible. Physical and mental disabilities, old age and death, particularly in case of accidents or murder, are also common, though mechanical language is used to describe them. Death is theoretically avoidable (by means of repair), and sometimes even reversible.
For further information please read here: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Cyberiad
For the animation, I used two types of characters: male and female robot and a giant medieval looking war tank. My references were the drawings made by Daniel Mr?z, who also died in 1993, Polish stage designer and artist, illustrator of the science fiction books of Stanislaw Lem. I used two drawings of him about the Cyberiad. All the permissions are granted from both official Lem`s website and Lucja Mroz-Raynoch, who daughter of Daniel Mroz. Very thanks to her.
Software used: Cinema 4D + Physical Renderer + Adobe After Effects + Adobe Premier Pro
Modelling, shading/texturing, Lighting and animation: Polat Yarisci
Music: The M+M Band, No More Crying
Reference Drawings: Daniel Mroz, Used by permission from ?ucja Mr?z-Raynoch behalf of Daniel Mr?z. Those drawings are here: english.lem.pl/gallery/mroz-drawings/category/37-cyberiad-1972-wl
