Lucas Ainsworth (https://pr.ai/showthread.php?5035) and Alyssa Hamel are the creative force and dynamic duo behind Kinetic Creatures.

Lucas is an Industrial Designer and graduate of The California College of the Arts with a background in environmental science. He currently works as an Experience Designer in the Interaction and Experience Research Lab at Intel, investigating the future of technology. In his professional and personal design work he is driven to explore the line between design and invention, and is especially interested in the mechanical “aesthetics of kinetics”.

Alyssa is a Visual Arts Teacher and Artist. Her work in arts education includes pioneering a Healing Arts Program in Thailand for children tsunami survivors, and running the Creative Arts Program at Glide in San Francisco. She currently teaches art to over 300 students in the Portland, OR public school system. She is fascinated with the connection between science and the arts and is committed to bringing artistic expression to communities in need.

Kinetic Creatures are a set of three walking cardboard animal sculptures. The Creatures, Elly the Elephant, Rory the Rhino, and Geno the Giraffe, are each made up of cardboard pieces that you assemble using tabs-and-slots. By turning the wire handle, you make the creatures come alive with a simple mechanical motion.

This week, Norm shares a fun cardboard model kit that he found at a local craft fair. These Kinetic Creatures are easy-to-assemble animal sculptures that use a mechanical linkage system inspired by Theo Jansen's StrandBeest to conduct a beautiful walking motion.
