XCOR Presentation on the Advances in Citizen Space Exploration Add Value to MOAH's Current Exhbit
Lancaster, CA. August 20, 2013 - Lancaster's Museum of Art and History (MOAH) is celebrating the success of its current exhibition; Free Enterprise: The Art of Citizen Space Travel. The Free Enterprise exhibit, which pays tribute to the Antelope Valley's rich aerospace history, explores the political and cultural shift away from federally sponsored expeditions to exploration of space by the private sector. The exhibit is represented through artistic endeavors as well as private organizations and companies working together to fulfill expression and fulfillment of this new direction in space exploration. XCOR Aerospace, which has been at the Mojave Air and Space Port since 1999 building rocket engines, rocket planes, and components for the New Commercial Space Industry, is one such company.

XCOR was started to fulfill the dream of spaceflight for the founders. They knew that the only way to make that dream come true was to make spaceflight affordable and in so doing, the dreams of others - investors, employees and private citizens - would become reality. In fourteen years the firm has developed and built thirteen different rocket engines and built and flown two manned rocket-powered aircraft. The first such vehicle, The EZ-Rocket, is the centerpiece of MOAH's Free Enterprise exhibit. The EZ-Rocket, completed in 2001, was a manned technology demonstrator for XCOR's future flight vehicles and spacecraft. During its 26 flights piloted by world famous aviator Dick Rutan, it set one official record and several unofficial records for rocket powered airplanes (xcor.com).
The Mojave based company, which has since evolved from its original four founders, to a team of over 50 employees, will give a public presentation at MOAH this Thursday August 22nd from 6 to 8 p.m. in the second floor south gallery. Seating is available on a first come first served basis. The presentation will explore XCOR's work to date in the Antelope Valley, the current plan for Lynx, its next generation vehicle, including capabilities for space tourism and research and education missions, as well as the company's ideas for a future orbital vehicle. XCOR is presently designing and building the suborbital reusable launch vehicle Lynx, which will carry a pilot and passenger or payload to 100 kilometers above the Earth.
