The pi4_workerbot by pi4_robotics is a novel, highly flexible industrial robot. Thanks to its built-in sensor array (cameras and power sensors built into its arms), the pi4_workerbot can "see" and "feel" what it grasps and manipulates and self-monitor the quality of its own work. The "eyes" of the pi4_workerbot are FireWire cameras from Allied Vision Technologies.

Product life time is getting ever shorter, whereas the variety of products is increasing, which in turn entails a diminishing number of pieces to be produced. In addition, there are strong cyclical fluctuations in the production quantity, which make a middle-term and long-term planning extremely difficult.
