This Ferry can sail and even dock all by itself — Genius Moments

Jan 3, 2019

Rolls-Royce and Finferries partnered in 2015 to develop and test autonomous shipping technologies. One of the outcomes of the SVAN research project was a fully autonomous ferry that the companies demonstrated in December 2018. "Falco" has so far collected more than 400 hours of training in the archipelago near the city Turku, Finland. The ferry can autonomously follow a pre-defined route and even adjust it to avoid collisions. In case of an emergency, a human captain can take over the control of the vessel at any time from a remote operations center located on the shore.
