Test site opens for unmanned vessels

Snake robots, underwater drones, unmanned ships and flying drones are craft you will soon be able to observe on the Trondheim Fjord, Norway’s third-longest fjord located in the west-central part of the country. The area is being established as a test lab for autonomous technology – which could replace the crews on ships, among many other possibilities.

Automating aquaculture with robots

MIT students and researchers from MIT Sea Grant work with local oyster farmers in advancing the aquaculture industry by seeking solutions to some of its biggest challenges. A combination of mechanical engineering, ocean engineering, and electrical engineering and computer sciences students work together to design a robot to help with flipping oyster bags at Ward Aquafarm on Cape Cod.
