In 1981 the first ICT event with the name Computer fair was hosted in Dubai. With just 46 exhibitors and 3038 visitors, the event was an industry pioneer that laid the foundation that put Dubai at the forefront of technology in the region. In 1982 Hall 2 saw its first event, and later the doors were open to the Sheikh Rashid Halls.
As the Trade Centre grew, so did the renamed GITEX Technology Week!
From the .com boom to the days cloud computing phenomenon, Y2K and the economical roller-coaster that is global business, GITEX has remained resilient and the loyal partner to the ICT sector and ranks among the top ICT shows around the world.
The 2006 opening of Zabeel Halls have given rise to Gulfcomms and the recent addition of Sheikh Zayed Halls has provided much needed space for GITEX as it continues to grow and cement its position as the biggest and most powerful Technology show in the Middle East.
GITEX has served as a springboard to powerful sector initiatives such as the launch of Dubai Internet City and bringing the city's services online with Dubai eGovernment.
