    Introducing Freefly ALTA 8

    Published on Mar 23, 2016

We started the quest for perfectly stable, cinematic shots from a drone over a decade ago.

Our first attempts were crude, underwhelming, and downright laughable in retrospect..... But we saw a glimmer of hope, and kept on tweaking, testing, crashing, and rebuilding.

Today we launch the ALTA 8. The most capable, agile, and professional cinema drone ever created.

What started as an garage experiment with a group of friends, has grown into a tool that professionals rely on to capture aerial content that was previously unimaginable.

ALTA 8 - quick release top handle

    Published on May 23, 2016

With the ALTA 8, the team at Freefly managed to sneak in a few very convenient features without sacrificing too much performance.

We added a quick release handle to the top of the craft for ground handling. At first this seemed silly, but after we prototyped the idea and our pilots tested and loved it, there was no going back.

We also added our quick release 'Toad in the Hole' mounting system to both the top and bottom of the aircraft. This allows the user to quickly change the configuration on the fly.

    - camera on top
    - camera on bottom
    - batteries on top
    - batteries on bottom
    - sensor on top
    - sensor on bottom
    - batteries on both (for extended flight times)

We go from sketches and CAD work to prototypes and production as quickly as possible to make your life on set quick and efficient.

ALTA - the most packable heavy lift drone in the world

    Published on May 24, 2016

The ALTA is the world's most packable heavy lift drone. It goes from case to flying in minutes and allows users to operate anywhere in the world.

Making a folding drone that is just as lightweight, reliable, and robust as a non-folding design is a serious challenge.

The team at Freefly spent months refining the design of our folding swan-neck booms. We knew that it would be the heart of the folding design, and had to be done well.

The ALTA was built to help you make shots that blow the world away... sometimes you have to hike for a bit to create them.

    ALTA – Agility

    Published on Aug 3, 2016

Camera movement is the backbone of visual storytelling. Getting the camera where it needs to be at an exact moment, for a precise frame, is everything.

With the ALTA, removing the barriers between idea and execution was paramount. Building a drone platform as dynamic as the stories you tell was the driving force behind every prototype, each iteration.

An aerial platform that professionals rely on can’t be where it needs to be at all times without agility.

Next time you take to the skies, fly to discover. Be more than just a bird’s view.
