CGI 3D animated short: "Glimmer" - by Greg Zdunek

    Dec 25, 2016

Check out this moving 3D animated short called "Glimmer", the story of a mining robot that is sent to an uninhabited planet to collect rare crystals, when one day it finds more than it can handle! Created by the talented Greg Zdunek, for more information, please see the details and links below:

    Background
    ------------------

Glimmer was entirely directed and produced by Greg Zdunek as the final graduation project for his degree at Monash University, Australia. Production was split across two semesters, 24 weeks in total, with the first semester being dedicated to asset development and the second to animation, lighting and compositing.

Throughout the production of the short film, Greg was also working as a Pipeline/Lighting TD at Luma Pictures, where he contributed to the visual effects of several Marvel films including Deadpool, Captain America: Civil War and Doctor Strange. This meant that Greg had a limited amount of time available to complete his student project in-between his professional work, which led to his decision to set the story around a short and simple idea, and restrict the entire film to less than 40 shots.

Autodesk Maya, Redshift, Nuke, World Machine, Quixel Suite and Cubase were the primary tools of choice, with Redshift being essential to rendering all the shots on time on just a single workstation PC.

    Music
    ------------------

Original music composed and produced by Greg Zdunek.
