    Meet the "duAro"

    Published on Feb 3, 2017

Edgewater Automation shows off the "duAro", a recently released collaborative robot from Kawasaki. The “duAro” is a dual-arm SCARA horizontal articulated robot that has the flexibility to be applied to production lines with a short product cycle and frequent changeovers, and can safely collaborate with humans in work operations. The “duAro” is the first dual-arm SCARA robot to operate on a single axis and features a payload capacity of 2 kg per arm. In addition to providing independent arm operation, the single axis configuration enables the robot to perform coordinated arm movements, much like a human, making it ideal for applications such as assembly, material handling, machine tending and dispensing. Edgewater is a preferred integrator for Kawasaki Robotics and many other leading robot manufacturers.

Electronics Assembly @ AUTOMATE 2017 - Kawasaki duAro robot

    Published on May 10, 2017

In this electronics assembly application, one Kawasaki duAro cobot uses multiple tools and sensors to fasten electronic components.

The collaborative dual-arm robot duAro performs independent arm operations, as well as coordinated arm movements, to handle and assemble electronic parts using several gripper and screwdriving tools. In this smart operation, real-time sensory information is used to control the robot movements. A laser presence sensor lets the duAro know screws are ready for pick up from the automatic feeder. A pressure sensor signals the amount of pressure the left hand needs to apply to the PCB as well as the amount of pressure needed for the right hand to tighten the screws. With the two arms of the cobot working together, much like a human, there is no need for fixtures to hold the PCB in place.
