Tonight, while waiting for a bus on Lawrence Avenue, I saw a tiny, bright, flashing blue light on the street near the curb. Reaching down to investigate the source, I discovered the mysterious blue light was emanating from one end of a tiny black metal cylinder laying in a crack in the asphalt near the gutter. It has no switches, nor indication of what its function is. It just keeps producing the tiny, piercing blue light, with regularly-spaced intervals of flashing, and shows no sign of dimming. What is its mysterious power source, and it's even more mysterious purpose? Is it atomic? Does it produce gamma rays? Did I inadvertently sterilize myself by placing it in my pocket? This can only be alien technology, from an extraterrestrial source. What can its enigmatic flashing signal mean, and what ominous message is it transmitting to the mother ship? Perhaps this foretells the end of earth, as predicted in the Mayan calender.
