Meka and the HCR Laboratory at UT Austin present the Dreamer sociable humanoid head. The goals of the head is to elicit a sense of trust and sociability
to an otherwise pure mechatronic device. Thus the head constitutes an organic link to its biological counterpart, creating feelings of quasi-affinity in response to gestures and synthetic emotions. The concept of the head was designed by Meka Robotics, Luis Sentis, and Roland Philippsen. It has references to female Anime and Comic characters. Another objective of the head is to display a sense of focus (on the task at hand) without being intimidating. Thus it possesses a thick forefront and at the same time a kind expression on the eyes and eyelashes. All in all, Meka and the HCRL have attempted to deliver a medium of organic expressions with great aesthetic beauty and superb mechatronic performance.
