Product Info:
Robotikits Kiko.893, from OWI, is a 107-piece STEM kit, for ages 8+. Assembly of the robot took us an hour and 40 minutes, and it requires 4 AAA batteries, not included. The Kiko.893 employs infrared sensory detection to navigate its way around. It has 6 legs and can swivel a full 360 degrees. The arms are not mechanical but can be moved and posed by hand. Press the switch between his eyes to get started, and the blinking LEDs and sounds will let you know that he's ready for action. Kiko works in two pre-programmed modes: Follow-Me and Explore. With the Follow-Me mode, place your hand in front of Kiko's eyes and move it around. Kiko will follow you like a puppy dog. The Explore mode sets Kiko off on his own. He will avoid obstacles, and move through mazes. The Kiko.893 is a great combination of assembly and play. Children will be rewarded for the time they spend building the robot. After a while, older kids may bore of the robot's abilities, so although I think this is a great toy, it may have limited repeat play for some. When playing with Kiko, make sure your hand and obstacles are within view of the eyes - his sensors will miss seeing lower objects.
