    The Sakura II was designed and manufactured based on the concept of Quince, a robot capable of operating in nuclear disasters developed by the Chiba Institute of Technology.
    The Sakura II can perform under in severe environments including nuclear power plants and features a hand gripper for opening doors.

    On April 14, 2016, a devastating earthquake (7 in Richter Scale) hit Kumamoto prefecture.
    Uto city hall was damaged to a brink of collapse. It was too dangerous for human to go in for inspection and a rescue robot, named Sakura 1, was sent to evaluate the damage.

    Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Ltd. and Chiba Institute of Technology unveiled the Sakura No. 2, a robot that can inspect the scene of an accident that is too dangerous for humans.
