Humanoid robot TUlip - Eindhoven University of Technology

Uploaded on Jul 8, 2011

Team EINDroid is a multidisciplinary team at Eindhoven University of Technology. The team conducts research in the field of Humanoid robotics, which are robots that resemble the appearance of humans and, in the future, are expected to serve and assist people in daily life.

Team EINDroid is part of the national initiative Dutch Robotics established in 2007, which is an ambitious project devoted to the development of new and advanced robotics technology. Dutch Robotics gathers together research groups from the three technical universities in The Netherlands: Eindhoven University of Technology, Delft University of Technology and the University of Twente. Their pilot project was the design and realization of the humanoid robot called TUlip.

TUlip is a humanoid robot with two legs, a torso, a head with neck and two arms. It is 1.3 meter tall and weighs 30 kilograms. In total, it has 16 motorized joints. Each leg has six degrees of freedom. This is sufficient to allow TUlip to walk along any Cartesian direction while maintaining a desired orientation of the torso, and in an almost human-like way.
