NeCoRo, furry robotic cat, OMRON Corporation, Kyoto, Japan

Necoro was a robot cat developed by Omron in Japan, as a sort of competitor to the Aibo. I fear the original website may not last forever; so here it is!

NeCoRo red tabby robot from Japan

There was no way of convincing my wife to adopt a fourth cat. "Three are enough" she always said. What about a cat who doesn't run across your house breaking things, doesn't scratch your sofa and doesn't steal your meal, but still looks like he's a real cat? Here's my red tabby NeCoRo straight from Japan - he's really cute and has it's own personality, exactly like the other three cats already in the family. BTW they appear in the video as guest stars :-)

It is worth nothing that this is the only toy which can attract attention of my cats every time I pull him out of the box. They are so jealous of Necoro that they try to hit him if they can!

This robot cat was produced in year 2000 in a limited edition of 5,000 and then the production was shut down. Sort of an AI experiment, I have been told these were used for pet therapy. For sure it looks damn real and so... kitty if you know what I mean. Would not disappoint any cat lover.

Well, enjoy the video of this rare robot!
