OctaWorm Deformable Octahedron Burrowing Robot

Published on Aug 6, 2012

OctaWorm is a deformable octahedron burrowing robot. The video shows the potential of the octahedral robotic platform for burrowing inside confined spaces such as in-pipe sections. Potential future applications in medicine are described. This video was specially prepared for the VIDA 14.0 artistic ALife contest.

Published on Jul 30, 2015

This video shows recent results on the development of a deformable robot which is capable of traveling inside confined spaces such as pipelines. The robot is constructed using pneumatic linear actuators in combination with 3D printed parts. Control is embedded in a host Arduino board. This research is being conducted as a joint collaboration between the University of Chile and the University of Akron. We thank funding from Romich Foundation.
