NASA’s Artemis II SLS (Space Launch System) rocket and Orion spacecraft have been transported by the Crawler-Transporter 2 from the Vehicle Assembly Building (VAB) at the agency’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida, on 17 January 2026. Artemis II is NASA’s first crewed test flight in the Artemis campaign. Four astronauts will fly aboard NASA’s Orion spacecraft around the far side of the Moon: NASA’s Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover, and Christina Koch, and CSA (Canadian Space Agency) astronaut Jeremy Hansen.

The translunar injection burn (TLI) propelled Orion on a path toward the Moon and set it on the free-return trajectory that will ultimately bring crew back to Earth for splashdown.
