Stewardship Through Participation: Durval Tavares at TEDxNewBedford

Published on Oct 8, 2012

TEDxNewBedford was hosted by Chris Rezendes and Dolores Hirschmann on September 5th, 2012.

Durval Tavares, President and CEO of Aquabotix, follows his three passions—the underwater world, robotics and innovation. After living in Azores, Portugal, Durval Tavares immigrated to Fall River, Massachusetts with his parents when he was 10 years old. After getting an electrical engineering degree from the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth, Durval worked as an engineer at Newport's Naval Undersea Warfare Center. In 1998, Tavares left NUWC and became the Director of Enterprise Architecture for Fidelity Investments and then, after many achievements, became the Senior Vice President of Product Delivery. Following his time at Fidelity, Durval started building underwater vehicles for the U.S. Navy. During dinner with a close friend, who had sailed around the world and encountered sleepless nights aboard his sailboat wondering if his anchor was properly set, the dream of Aquabotix began.
