Not modeled or sculpted, a fractal is a mathematical set with self-similar properties. If explored, one can find the most bizarre of shapes and patterns.
Inspired by the work of H.R. Geiger.

Fractal shapes and patterns twist and turn to evolve into the Thirteen Skulls. The resolution lies in an entirely different fractal dimension.

The third of a Fractal Symphonic Trilogy.
I've tried to make an aesthetically appealing animation using fractal software, so to give an organic and familiar experience to the otherworldly beauty of fractals.

A ship is frozen in the deep arctic. No help is coming. The Navigators and Cartographers aboard, suffering from hypothermia and frostbite are starting to hallucinate.
This is their Fractal Hallucination.

A series of portraits of Fractal shapes.
These shapes are emergent from relatively simple mathematics, not unlike a simple molecular structure can create an infinite amount of differently shaped crystals. They look designed, but this is just an Illusion.

Consciousness is still a very difficult thing to understand, but we know it has something to do with the trillions of connections in our brains. Our Fractal brains. Because the grey matter has developed in a similar way as these visuals: very simple beginnings bring forth infinite complexity.

Due to the phenomenon of Convergent Evolution, we can expect to see familiar shapes on planets in distant solar systems. Like on this one, where everything is connected.
Fractal animation has not much in common with traditional animation. The fractal animator uses sliders controlling various formulas, that control how the shapes manifest on a global scale (If you tweak anything in a formula, everything changes) Then there are more traditional methods such as camera work and lighting to put these newly discovered shapes up for display.
