The NASA-ISRO Synthetic Aperture Radar (NISAR) mission was deployed into a Geosynchronous Transfer Orbit (GTO) about 19 minutes after being launched by a Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle Mk II (GSLV-F16) from the Second Launch Pad (SLP) at Satish Dhawan Space Centre SHAR (SDSC SHAR), Sriharikota, India, on 30 July 2025, at 12:10 UTC (17:40 IST).NISAR is “designed to provide a detailed view of the Earth to observe and measure some of the planet's most complex processes, including ecosystem disturbances, ice-sheet collapse, natural hazards, sea level rise, and groundwater issues”.
