Micro-Fixing: Joe Kiani at TEDxChapmanU

Published on Jul 20, 2012

Joe's TEDxChapmanU talk will inspire entrepreneurs and healthcare individuals around the world. He walks us through his experiences throughout his life and how they lead to his belief that microscopic changes can bring forth a true revolution against injustice. This idea guided him to his entrepreneurial spirit and what he calls "micro-fixing."

Joe Kiani is the founder, Chairman, and CEO of Masimo Corporation, a global medical technology innovator credited with revolutionizing pulse oximetry and noninvasive patient monitoring. Since founding Masimo in 1989, Joe has helped to solve the "unsolvable" problems plaguing patient monitoring, while building a substantial intellectual property portfolio with over 575 issued and pending patents worldwide. But his journey is more reminiscent of a David & Goliath story, complete with almost insurmountable obstacles and challenges, rather than an overnight success. From taking on the most powerful healthcare GPOs (group purchasing organizations) in early 2000 and becoming a catalyst for nationwide change, to taking on the goliath of the oximetry market for patent infringement of Masimo's game-changing technology, Joe has fought long and hard to ensure that "doing what is best for patient care" is the nation's priority. In the process, he has become a modern day "triumph of the underdog" example of the American Dream, working to make sure other inventors have the opportunities he has had.
