The modular inspection robot KAIRO-II is a highly flexible sensor carrier, consisting of drive segments with wheels, which are connected through powerful joint segments. Each drive segment has two DOF and each joint segment has three DOF with harmonic drive gear boxes. Its snake-like kinematic structure combined with the great torques of the joint segments allows KAIRO II to lift individual segments and climb over obstacles.
