The Legged Robotics Team at ETH Zurich's Autonomous Systems Lab is doing research to build fast, versatile, and efficient quadrupedal robots. This movie illustrates some of the work that was done in the past years. Inspired by nature, the team built different types of electrically driven robots that can do various maneuvers from slow and careful climbing to very robust dynamic trotting.
Robotics Microlectures are produced in cooperation with Switzerland's NCCR Robotics and Robohub.
Another charity shop visit. Robot dogs this time. I can find no information on the silver grey dog but the blue one is a Poo-Chi. I already have a Dino-Chi and recognised it when I saw it. After I finished filming my grandsons came home and had plenty of fun with them and managed to get far more actions from them.
I found this website which has an interesting range and also some manuals available for download. It give a good bit of information on the Poo-Chi and the Dino-Chi so I will you go there rather than copy it.

The new ROBOTIS PLAY600 PETs robot kit includes a cute bird that only took a few minutes to assemble, but provided lots of fun and excitement for our two dogs.
The kit allows very young learners to get involved in building simple robots even before they are old enough to start learning how to program. ROBOTIS expects to release the kit for sale in February.
Total assembly time for this robot was about 10 minutes. The kit includes all the parts and plans for two other, slightly more complex, animal type robots that move.
The Whistle N' Go Puppy is ready for exciting puppy-time fun! This obedient puppy anxiously awaits for his master to give him commands. With a single blow on the whistle your puppy will move forward, blow two times on the whistle and he will move backwards. Watch his ears flap up and down with excitement as he plays!
Whistle N' Go Puppy requires 2x AA batteries. Suitable for ages 24 months and up.

A social dog robot made in class.
Here, we present the design and realization of a cheap, lightweight quadruped robot based on a real dogs' anatomy. The robot is capable of autonomously showing multiple gaits such as walk, which require active retraction of the legs, and gallop, during which all four legs are lifted from the ground.
This Project will probably go down in history as one of my favorite Builds. Never in a million yrs would i have had a chance to build this if it wasn't for you tube and all the wonderful folks who have taking interest in my channel. Having Jimmy Diresta and Bob Clagett down to check out my drill powered walking Bull dog was an experience i will not forget both absolutely amazing guys with incredible talents.
Robotic Spy Pup lives among a pack of wild dogs to film the emotional dynamics of wild dog life. By mimicking their body language he becomes accepted by the pack.
What has thick fur, runs on solar power, and screeches at wild boars in 48 different tones? Give up? It's 'Super Monster Wolf', Japan's latest mechanical answer to keeping unwanted visitors from ruining crops.
Chikao Umezawa, head of agricultural cooperative association JA Kisarazu-shi (Japanese): "We made the robot for the purpose of preventing the damage to field crops from wild boars, and also to prevent them from harming the residents in the town."
Chikao Umezawa, head of agricultural cooperative association JA Kisarazu-shi (Japanese): "It makes 48 different sounds, and they can reach up to 1 square kilometers. By using the solar panel, its power can be supplied automatically."
Chikao Umezawa, head of agricultural cooperative association JA Kisarazu-shi (Japanese): "It has been almost one month - we put it on on July 11th - and no wild boars have shown up so far."
Chikao Umezawa, head of agricultural cooperative association JA Kisarazu-shi (Japanese): "The robot has the highest artificial intelligence function - which is made with Japanese precision instruments - so we utilise it very much, and we also want to minimise damage everywhere in the world."
In a small Buddhist temple, a funeral for robot dogs is a poignant expression of the human capacity for emotional connection and compassion.
