Best Buy is experimenting with full automation -- in the form of a robot -- to sell a decidedly old-fashioned medium -- CDs and DVDs. We went to Best Buy to buy a CD and never talked to a human being. Instead, a computer and robot called Chloe sold us a CD.

A new wireless control system is transforming the warehouse automation solution used by Ocado. The technology enables the online grocery retailer to control and co-ordinate the movements of hundreds of thousands of crates containing millions of grocery items, in real time and in parallel. It means that Ocado’s innovative next-generation warehouse is home to the most densely packed mobile network in the world.

Westcombe Dairy cheese robot

Westcombe Dairy in Somerset recently embarked on a major engineering project to build a vast cheese-ageing cellar inside the insulating clay of a nearby hillside. Now completed, the cellar has been loaded with the dairy's multiple award-winning Cheddar cheese wheels – which are being looked after by a robot. The first of its kind in the UK, this impressive robot-affineur moves up and down the cellar's aisles day and night, lifting, turning and rooting the ageing cheeses, helping them in their long, slow maturation into beautiful Somerset Cheddar.

Robots sorting system helps Chinese company finish at least 200,000 packages a day in the warehouse

Chinese delivery firm is moving to embrace automation.
Orange robots at the company's sorting stations are able to identify the destination of a package through a code-scan, virtually eliminating sorting mistakes.
Shentong's army of robots can sort up to 200,000 packages a day, and are self-charging, meaning they are operational 24/7.
The company estimates its robotic sorting system is saving around 70-percent of the costs a human-based sorting line would require.
