In the quadcopter space, Parrot may be best known for its AR.Drone and mini quads, but they're also behind two initiatives to use unmanned vehicles for aerial mapping. SenseFly and Pix4D are two departments making those vehicles and the 3D mapping software, and we learn about their latest quad at this year's CES.

DRONE FIGHT is a high tech action comedy about two drones whose companies pit them against each other as a publicity stunt. Will they fight to the death or wise up?
This animation is a pre-visualization of the live action feature length movie. The animation was created to explore a few of the action sequences. The screenplay for the full length feature, which has quite a bit more humor and action, was written by Mark F. Martino and is available for interested producers.
We demonstrate a new method to automatically recover and stabilize a drone from any initial condition, without GPS. On the one hand, this new technology will allow drones to be launched by simply tossing them in the air, like a “baseball”. On the other hand, it will make drones much safer since they can recover stable flight after a system failure. This is crucial for commercial use of drones, such as parcel delivery.
Our quadrotor is equipped with a single camera, an inertial measurement unit, and a distance sensor (Teraranger One). Since we use only onboard sensors and no GPS, the method works both indoors and outdoors.
In this emergency webcast, the Roswell Flight Test Crew alerts the community about Oregon Senate Bill 71, which seeks to regulate "drones," but which would criminalize all FPV flying -- and potentially all model aviation -- including consumer products like the Parrot AR Drone. This bill could damage Oregon's economic recovery by reducing sales at hobby shops, forcing manufacturers that produce drone aircraft for the United States military to shut down, as well as undermining the state's efforts to be selected as one of six drone test areas by the Federal Aviation Administration. It would also violate the constitutional rights of people who already own FPV systems, by making it a crime merely to possess such systems, without due process of law and in violation of their basic property rights.
RMIT UAS Research team dogfights with the king of the skies, where nature exhibits aerial supremacy over drones!
The attacked Micro-Air-Vehicle airframe (Alula) was kindly donated by Dream-Flight for Research purposes. It was instrumented with an autopilot programmed to autonomously slope soar.
Many times have birds attacked micro-sized aircraft, but rarely carried away as prey!
I think the RC planes (they call them target drones) are my favorite part of the shoot at Big Sandy. These tiny planes zip back and forth along the 1/4 mile firing line and are an irresistible target for the shooters.
I'm sure to those who have never shot a machine gun outside of Call of Duty, it looks like it would be easy to shoot these down. The vital components of the plane like the engine, battery, receiver, fuel tank, etc. are very small. The main body of the plane is pretty tough and can take numerous hits without affecting it.
The pilot is very skilled and his defensive maneuvers make it very difficult for the gunners to predict where to lead the plane. I have no idea how the pilot can maintain orientation of the plane in the dark with tracers and fireworks all over the place.
This was filmed in Arizona at the Big Sandy Machine Gun shoot.

At the end of last week, a federal court ruled in favor of flying commercial drones in the first case of its type. At SXSW, we speak with Brendann Schulman, the winning attorney on the case, about how it came about and what it means for the future of unmanned flight.
Mythbusters' Adam Savage and Jamie Hyneman demonstrate how a home drone can injure a human by pitting a rotor against a chicken.
See in slow motion whether a drone’s fast spinning blades are just an accident waiting to happen.
In the past we've tried to make a box fly and failed miserably. At Joe Nall this year we ran into a father-son duo who hit the nail on the head!
