"I continue to believe that the internet is not broken, but it is not healthy". Mitchell Baker, Chairwoman and co-counder of Mozilla, gave a keynote speech at the 2019 Norad Conference. Her speech closed the third session of the day, on digitalisation, democratisation and human rights.
Mitchell Baker is a legend in the open source world, and is considered one of the pioneers of the web who has brought the open internet to consumers. She was instrumental in Netscape’s decision in 1998 to release its source code to the public. This later led to the release of the Firefox browser and the creation of the Mozilla Foundation. In 2012, Baker was inducted into the Internet Hall of Fame by the Internet Society.
