ARNL Mobile Robot Autonomous Navigation with PatrolBot for Robotics Research, R&D, and Education

Published on May 3, 2013

This video quickly shows how a mobile robot from Adept MobileRobots moves using the ARNL autonomous navigation and localization software package. This autonomous behavior can be integrated into your own project and customized to choose goals and perform tasks during motion or when goal points are reached according to the design of your own application.

The localization component of ARNL maintains an accurate position coordinate for the center of the robot in the space as the robot moves, even if the wheels slip (e.g. going over the bump).

ARNL software is available with most platforms from MobileRobots, this video shows the PatrolBot. It is using a laser rangefinder (LIDAR) to sense obstacles as it drives. All autonomous behavior is self contained in the robot. Also shown is the MobileEyes remote user interface for visualization and configuration.

Pioneer 3-DX Mobile Robot

Published on May 18, 2012

Some speed and terrain navigation capabilities of the Pioneer 3-DX research platform from Adept MobileRobots. The Pioneer 3 is capable of easily traversing all of the bumps, gaps, thresholds, ramps and transitions found in indoor office and lab environments.

Shown are: external door threshold, sidewalk gaps and bumps, a carpet and an extension power cord, small indoor threshold, up and down a ramp at normal and slow, constant speeds, and traversing 1.5 and 2 inch open gaps.

This robot is equipped with bumper switch sensor attachments (on front and back near the bottom) which will automatically stop the robot if it accidentally contacts an obstacle.

The robot is controlled by software on an onboard computer (PC, inside the robot) sending velocity commands to the robot's embedded motion controller.

GuiaBot (MT400/PatrolBot) Gives A Brief Tour of the MobileRobots Office

Uploaded on Oct 28, 2010

GuiaBot greets a person and leads them on a brief tour.

The robot hardware and APs (including speech synthesis and robot control) are available for academic research as "GuiaBot"

The base robot is available with the complete Motivity package for commercial applications as "MT400". Using Motivity a demo like this can be configured with easy to use graphical tools in minutes.

The base is available as "PatrolBot" for academic research with development SDK included, including an implementation of the autonomous navigation seen here, and speech synthesis.
