The Shenzhou-13 crew spacecraft successfully undocked from the radial port of the Tianhe Core Module (天和核心舱) on 15 April 2022, at 16:44 (16 April, at 00:44 China Standard Time). The Shenzhou-13 (神舟十三) crew, astronauts Zhai Zhigang (commander), Ye Guangfu and Wang Yaping, completed the first six-month mission on the China Space Station (中国空间站). The Shenzhou-13 spacecraft is expected to land at the Dongfeng landing site, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, north China, on 16 April 2022

The Shenzhou-13 (神舟十三) crew, astronauts Zhai Zhigang (commander), Ye Guangfu and Wang Yaping, completed the first six-month mission on the China Space Station (中国空间站).

What’s next for the China Space Station in 2022 and 2023

The China National Space Administration plans to complete the construction of the China Space Station in 2022 by adding the Wentian Experiment Capusule-1 and the Mengtian Experiment Capsule-2 to the Tianhe Core Module. The Tianzhou-2 and Tianzhou-3 cargo spacecraft will provide supplies for the astronauts of the Shenzhou-14 and Shenzhou-15 crew spacecraft.

Tianzhou-4 (天舟四号) is the third cargo mission scheduled to autonomously dock to the Tianhe Core Module (天和核心舱), the first and main component of the China Space Station (中国空间站).

The Tianzhou-4 cargo spacecraft was launched by the Long March-7 Y5 launch vehicle from the Wenchang Spacecraft Launch Site, Hainan Province, China, on 9 May 2022, at 17:56 UTC (10 May, at 01:56 local time). Tianzhou-4 (天舟四号) autonomously docked to the rear docking port of the Tianhe Core Module (天和核心舱), the first and main component of the China Space Station (中国空间站), at 10 May 2022, at 00:54 UTC (08:54 China Standard Time). Tianzhou-4 carries propellant, supplies for the Shenzhou-14 astronauts, spare parts for space station maintenance and space research equipment.

Shenzhou-14 mission overview

Shenzhou-14 astronaut Liu Yang briefly presented the main objectives of the mission at the press conference held at the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center, on 4 June 2022. Lin Xiqiang, deputy director of the China Manned Space Agency, presented the main functions of the Wentian and Mengtian lab modules. Shenzhou-14 (神舟十四号) is the third crew of three astronauts, Chen Dong (陈冬, commander), Liu Yang (刘洋) and Cai Xuzhe (蔡旭哲) to enter the Tianhe Core Module (天和核心舱) and the second scheduled for a six-month mission on the China Space Station (中国空间站).

The Tianzhou-3 cargo spacecraft was undocked from the Tianhe Core Module on 17 July 2022, at 02:59 UTC (10:59 China Standard Time). According to the China National Space Administration, “the Tianzhou 3 cargo spacecraft is in good condition and will re-enter into the atmosphere under ground control, at a later time”. Tianzhou-3 (天舟三号) is the second cargo spacecraft to dock with the Tianhe Core Module (天和核心舱), the first and main component of the China Space Station (中国空间站).

Shenzhou-14 astronauts begin first spacewalk

According to the China National Space Administration (CNSA), the first extravehicular activity of the Shenzhou-14 mission began on 1 September 2022. At 10:26 UTC (18:26 China Standard Time), astronaut Chen Dong (陈冬, commander) successfully opened the airlock of the Wentian Laboratory Module (问天实验舱). By 11:09 UTC (19:09 China Standard Time), astronaut Chen Dong and astronaut Liu Yang (刘洋) successfully exited the Wentian Laboratory Module and began the planned activities.

During the departure, Tianzhou-4’s onboard camera captured the China Space Station in the T-shape configuration of the Tianhe Core Module (天和核心舱), the Wentian Laboratory Module (问天实验舱) and the Mengtian Laboratory Module (梦天实验舱).
