KAIROS launch anomaly

SPACE ONE KAIROS launch vehicle’s first launch experienced a launch anomaly at SpacePort Kii (スペースポート紀伊), Tahara, Kushimoto Town, Higashimuro-gun, Wakayama Prefecture, Japan, on 13 March 2024, at 02:01 UTC (11:01 local time). According to SPACE ONE (スペースワン), “A flight termination measure was taken after launch. Details are under investigation”.

The third SPACE ONE KAIROS launch vehicle launched the “Rising Hope Star” mission, with five small satellites, from the SpacePort Kii (スペースポート紀伊), Wakayama Prefecture, Japan, on 5 March 2026, at 02:10 UTC (11:10 local time). Shortly after liftoff, the launch vehicle experienced an anomaly and the mission was terminated. According to SPACE ONE (スペースワン), KAIROS is a four-stage launch vehicle (solid fuel three-stage and liquid propellant upper stage) designed to launch small satellites of up to 150 kg to a 500 km Sun-synchronous orbit (SSO) and up to 250 kg to a 500 km low-Earth orbit (LEO).
