After winning the 2013 Ford hackathon in Melbourne I wanted to do more. I took my 2012 Ford Focus, a handful of 150 degree cameras, arduino control boards and a SparkFun MicroView ... and turned my car into an Autonomous Self Driving Ford.

For less than $1,000 I bought all the components, and over the space of 3 weekends, I set about turning the car it an autonomous vehicle.

Researchers at the University of California, Riverside’s ASPIN Laboratory are developing a next generation navigation system that exploits existing environmental signals such as cellular and Wi-Fi, rather than the Global Positioning System (GPS). The technology could help bring driverless cars and unmanned drones closer to reality.
